Windows

Generally anodised or powder coated commercial grade aluminium framed windows are to be used to match in colour those in the existing buildings.

It is essential that windows more than one storey above ground can be cleaned from inside. In cases where it is not necessary for windows to be opened by the users they are to be fitted with budget locks so that they can be opened by maintenance staff.

It is noted that window openings widths and locations are to meet the Deemed to Satisfy Provisions of the Building Code of Australia.

Opening windows accessible from the ground (within 3 metres to the sill) are to have window locks (Lockwood or equal, as directed).

The use of blinds should not be relied upon as the sole protection from summer sun penetration.

Specify Holland blinds to all windows.

Glazing

  • All glazing selection is to be undertaken in accordance with the regulatory requirements.
  • External window glazing is to be integrally tinted for glare and heat transfer control to meet the regulatory requirements.
  • Glazing visual material is to be consistent around the perimeter and vertically up the building. Internal partition glass to walkways and in student areas is to be laminated or toughened with thickness to suite the application.

Observation Windows

  • Observation windows can be either one way or two way observation windows depending upon the application.

Visual Privacy

  • Tinting may be introduced, or film applied to glazed panels to provide visual privacy to sensitive areas. Any tinting or film application is to extend through areas to provide visual consistency in spaces.
    • Applied Tinting Patterns: Tinted film is to be applied only to existing glazing. 3M Scotchcal 7725-314 'Dusted Crystal' or 3M Scotchal 7725-324, 'FrostedCrystal' or equal window film tint by Austratint.

Window Hardware

Control gear is only to be used where absolutely essential.

Where used, control gear should be appropriate for the location and application. Preferred supplier / manufacturer is Soady Controls.
